Volunteering for the community

The project aimed to connect marginalized areas with the rest of the city, by creating a network of volunteers, mostly young people.

They were trained in management, interculturality and combating discrimination, and then supported the integration of Roma children and contributed to the redevelopment of the Community Center, promoting a healthy environment.

  • Development and implementation of a sustainable volunteering program: The goal is to establish a solid framework through which young people from Hârșova can actively engage in the community.
  • Social integration of children from disadvantaged areas: The project aims to facilitate the integration and reintegration of children, especially those of Roma ethnicity, through non-formal activities.
  • Fighting discrimination and promoting interculturality: A key objective is to educate and raise awareness of volunteers, in order to provide them with the necessary tools in the fight against discrimination and to promote respect for different cultures.
  • Creating an ecological and friendly environment: Through concrete actions, such as planting trees and hedges, the project aims to improve green spaces, providing a safe and pleasant place for children.
  1. Development of the volunteer management procedure: The project team developed a volunteer management procedure, which included selection criteria, responsibilities and working methodologies, providing a clear framework for their involvement.
  2. Volunteer selection and training: 20 young people were recruited, who participated in 4 workshops on communication, conflict management and social skills development.
  3. Community implementation: Volunteers worked directly with Roma children, providing educational and personal development support through 8 recreational activities. They also redeveloped the Community Center courtyard, transforming it into a green and functional space.
  4. Increasing the association’s capacity: The project contributed to developing the association’s organizational capacity by establishing working procedures and a strategic plan.
  • Volunteer management procedure developed and implemented, in accordance with the legislation in force
  • Training volunteers with the skills and knowledge necessary to work effectively with Roma children
  • 23 educational and recreational workshops organized for Roma children (compared to 8 initially planned), with 384 participants
  • Redevelopment of the Community Center interior with the involvement of volunteers, Roma children and community members
  • Two greening actions: one with over 200 students from the Gymnasium School no. 1 Hârșova and another with 40 children from Ghindărești Middle School.
  • Christmas Gala organized with the provision of gifts for 30 volunteers and 90 packages for Roma children.
  • Significant educational and social support provided to Roma children, contributing to their personal development and social integration.
  • Increasing the visibility of the project and the association.
  • Developing the organizational capacity of the association.
